Visual Journal Assignment #10

Due: Monday, March 3rd

We currently live in a world full of technology that fits into our hands. Cellphones, iPods, iPads, and tablets allow us to access a variety of information no matter where we are.

It has become popular to decorate these pieces of technology with cases that not only protect them from damage, but allow us to inject some of our personality into them.

For this visual journal assignment, you will be designing not one, but two cases for a device of your choice.

In your sketchbooks or on a sheet of paper, you will create two “outlines” of a device (cellphone, iPod, iPad, tablet, etc). These will be the outlines for the cases.

The theme of your two designs should be opposites. Meaning that the subject matter should be the opposites of each other. Some examples could be light vs. dark, color vs. black and white, good vs. evil, hot vs. cold.

Along with creating designs that are the opposite of each other, also remember that you want to create designs that are visually appealing and that would adapt themselves well to being cases.

For your paragraph, you will describe how you came up with your device case designs and why you feel like they are opposites of each other.

The shoes you decide to wear may reflect your personal style, your athletic interest or what mood you may be in that day.

For this visual journal assignment, you will be designing your very own pair of shoes. But these won’t be just any regular pair of shoes. You are to design, the most over the top, crazy, original shoes you can think of.

Perhaps your shoes have a real game-boy in them to show your love of gaming.

Maybe you create a pair of shoes entirely out of computer hardware or a pair of whimsical, topsy-turvy high heels. Think big and over the top!

For your paragraph you will describe to me what inspired you to create your crazy shoe creation.

It's Learning!

In order to align my class with the rest of the Franklin School District, I will now be posting weekly homework to It's Learning. I will still be posting the homework to this blog as well.

The assignments will be posted under "Events" within the course "Art".

If any of you have difficulty logging onto It's Learning, you can still get your homework assignments here on the blog, or you may obtain a paper hard-copy from the "Weekly Assignment" folder stapled to the bulletin board in the classroom.

Visual Journal Assignment #8

Due: Monday, February 10th

In tales of Greek mythology, mythological creature are often featured. These creatures often combine human like features with that of animals.

Common mythological creatures of Greek mythology include (but aren’t limited to):

The Centaur (half human, half horse)
The Minotaur (half human, half bull)
The Satyr (half human, half goat)

For this visual journal assignment, you will be creating an original creature that could be featured in stories of Greek mythology. Your creature should be half human and half another creature. Your creature should have both characteristics of a human and also that of the animal you are combining it with. It should not just look like a regular animal standing on two legs.

Please don’t copy and pre-existing mythological creatures.

The Centaur is half human and half horse
For your paragraph, tell me what the name of your mythological creature is and how you came up with your concept. You will also describe what kind of creature they are. Are they good or evil? Do they have any special powers?
