7th
grade has finally finished their rather lengthy and challenging unit on
portraiture. Even though one cannot expect students to master the art of
portrait drawing in a matter of weeks, I must say I am very pleased in the
growth that I saw in each and every student during the course of the unit.
Since
finishing the portrait unit, students have moved on a unit on graffiti and how
street art has evolved over time. Students looked at three street artists
working today and are in the process of creating their own graffiti “tag” with
tempera paint, learning how to blend the tempera paint from one color to
another. This is a favorite unit among students and I’m excited to show you the
finished products in a few weeks.
